No more pretending.I imagined a story where I didn’t have to be the damsel.
Westworld Season 2 Will Bring Back Jimmi Simpson
Normally, the news that a key actor from the first season of a hit TV show is returning for the sophomore season can be filed under the “Duh” category of entertainment news. However, this is not the case with Jimmi Simpson returning for Westworld season 2.
1. My opinion of the TV series in less than 5 words
Fuck ‘em all up, Dolores.
2. If I approve of the ending
Absolutely. I knew someone was gonna get shot, I just wasn’t sure who.
3. If I ever re watch it
I haven’t watched it since it ended. I’m worried I’ll get sucked in too deep and wind up writing some really disturbing fic that involves clock-fucking. See below for more unfortunate details.
4. Who my favorite character is
Dolores Abernathy. My beautiful dream of a Disney Princess: a shoot-em-up cowgirl robot with a plan.
5. Who my least favorite character is
Logan. Just wanted to smack him around. Or see him get messed up a bit more. He’s a red herring that’s discarded as soon as the truth is out.
6. My favorite scene
My favorite scene is really just a moment–the expression in Sir Anthony Freakin’ Hopkins’s slightly teary eyes when he just crushes acting for all time saying, “No, I wouldn’t say ‘friends,’ Dolores. I wouldn’t say that at all.”
7. My favorite romantic pairing
Okay, this is going to look SO BAD but hear me out… I was all about Dolores and William. I’m not normally into white on white crime, but I dug how offbeat they were. They’re vanilla cookies with blood filling. She’s a freaking robot that was created seemingly to suffer for eternity but is so damn close to waking up. He’s a poor kid who hustled his way into some status and wealth but still lives in his head, still feels a yearning dissatisfaction and has been looking for something to put the entirety of himself into. I loved how they helped each other on their respective quests and how William acknowledged and understood that Dolores had a mission and that her mission was more important than anything he could’ve dreamed of.
Then of course, William turned out to be The Man in Black.
This, on the page, was not potentially a deal breaker. Because I was okay with that choice. It would be very cool to know that the hero became a villain. I just hated the way it was done on the show with William going all knife-crazy and realizing he loved killing more than he liked anything else IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Like, they did that bit in the movie where the newly-revealed baddie’s eyes go all cold and he tells us EXACTLY WHY HE DOES WHAT HE DOES. In this case, he loved murder a lot and was mad that the girl didn’t live for him and it happened in one episode after an entire season of the absolute opposite.
I want to write fix-its for this so bad. WHAT IF William kills everyone in that camp after he finds out that Dolores was killed but it’s not some slow-walking knife-wielding grinning thing–but an actual break that’s messy and heartbreaking? What if he leaves Logan out in the desert, purely out of a twisted sense of vengeance and the promise that he is going to take away his life in other ways? No feathers get stuck in butts, no cool monotone kiss-off. What if William returns to the town and sees Dolores, who does not remember him, but he understands that and picks up the can again. And again. And again. And again and again. What if we never see the progression from this guy to the man in black but know that the potential to be that man started there and the repetition of trying to wake Dolores up again broke him somehow, made him a fool. We never have to see it, we know it happened. Dolores became less real to him and less important as the years went by and ultimately the easiest thing was to embrace “the game” and make her just another robot. That is the tragedy–that he could have been more, it was in there too, but instead he became another murderous gamer bro douche who thinks he deserves it all. Much like his buddy Logan.
So tl;dr, I shipped Dolores x William but I also wanted her to shoot him in the back of the head.
It’s not too late! I might still get my wish! I am not a monster, I swear! I sometimes like things that are terrible.
8. My favorite non romantic pairing
Dolores and Arnold. Man, I knew that was Arnold. Because Jeffrey Wright is too good an actor and that was not Bernard. Bernard did not have Arnold’s delight.
Dolores meant something to Arnold. He loved her as if she were his child, because she is. And the contrast between her interactions with him and her interactions with Ford were so telling.
The moment when she believes she’s seeing him again and she rests her face in his hands… It was like a person dreaming of a parent and realizing mid-dream that they are dead and this won’t last.
thank you for the ask, @sussoria! I love your gif sets, they fill me with joy
from this meme. ask away!
Well…I guess we know where you stand.
#for a second i read this as ‘i’d fuck you both’ and i was like #ok fair enough i mean me too
WESTWORLD AU:
Dolores solves the maze with William the first time around, and they escape. Now free and on the run, William shows a newly sentient Dolores the outside world.
